The origins of our company are in agriculture and Simplot Australia has been sourcing the best quality vegetables from Australian farmers since the first processing plant opened under the Edgell name in Bathurst in 1926.   Our Devonport plant first opened in 1944.

Simplot Australia works closely with 520 farmers, some of whose families have been growing Birds Eye and/or Edgell vegetables and potatoes for generations. 

Simplot Australia is committed to supporting Australian farmers and, wherever possible, our preference is to source all of our vegetables and potatoes from Australian farms.  Because vegetables and potatoes are a natural product, they are affected by environmental elements such as weather and other climatic changes. 

Vegetables

Vegetables are at the heart of our business.  We harvest and process potatoes, corn, beans, peas, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower and market these under the Edgell and  Birds Eye brands.

Simplot Australia sources the vast majority of vegetables from the lush, fertile fields of Tasmania, with some vegetables such as corn, sourced from NSW.

The majority of Birds Eye’s potato products are made from 100% Tasmanian grown potatoes.

In 2004/2005 Birds Eye and Edgell accounted for more than 60 million kilograms of vegetables grown for the Devonport plant alone and 300 million kilograms of potatoes: the equivalent of approximately 15,000 hectares of farming land.
